Mining Guide

Follow our instructions for mining on Windows. Mining on other platforms will follow.

Introduction

  • MotaCoin is based on the X13 Algorithm which uses 13 unique systems of hashing with 13 different hashing functions: blake, BMW, groestl, jh, keccak, skein, luffa, cubehash, shavite, simd, echo, hamsi and fugue. This algorithm combines the security benefits of each algorithm included by using each of the 13 hashes per x13 hash, so a potential attacker would have to decrypt all 13 unique systems of cryptographic security.

Setup

  • MotaCoin can be mined using ASICs (typically baikal), Nvidia GPUs or AMD GPUs. AMD cards have reported lower performance on this algo. Here are some links to some key items you will need to mine MotaCoin (y es mejor si tienes la mota tambien!).

Needed items for computers with Nvidia cards

  • MotaCoin wallet's found here
  • Mining program (ccminer x64) found here
(To open this download, you will need to downloand a program similar to winzip called 7-zip. Find that here)

Needed items for computers with AMD cards

  • MotaCoin wallet's found here
  • Mining program (sgminer amd64) found here

Getting started with Nvidia GPUs

  • Step 1: After downloading the MotaCoin wallet, click the extract all button and create a new folder for your MotaCoin stuff. I used C:\Mota
  • Step 2: After it extracts the Motacoin-qt file, open the file. Windows may warn you / ask to allow the file to make changes. Allow windows to open the file and let the wallet startup. The wallet will start syncing with the blockchain automatically, so let that run awhile in the background. While it does that....

(!)- Some people have reported the wallet crashes the first time opening it. If this happens, just open the wallet again and it will start fine.
  • Step 3: Open the ccminer 7-zip archive and extract all the contents into the same folder (in my case C:\Mota)

Pick a MotaCoin pool to join

  • Step 4: In the Mota folder, pick any of the files that start with RUN, right click the file and hit edit (you can delete the other two RUN files after you configure this file).
  • Step 5: Configure the batch file with your information, it should look something like this:  ccminer-x64 -a x13 -o pooladdresshere -u walletaddresshere -p options
  • *Your wallet address can be found in the MotaCoin wallet app under the receive coins section. Click on your address there and click copy address, then you can just paste it in the batch file.*
  • Here is an example from luckyaltcoinpool:
  • ccminer-x64.exe -a x13 -o stratum+tcp://pool.luckyaltcoin.com:3633 -u MHvf4RdPDJYkexwcGS4pSC8h17jaGtEEVH -p c=MTA
  • Step 6: Save the batch file, then double click on it to open and start the mining. You can add some options such as --max-temp=80 to have the miner automatically stop mining if the card gets too hot (some may prefer to set that lower). The readme for ccminer goes over a list of different commands you can add to your mining program if you ever feel like getting more in depth! (NVIDIA 1080ti should average around 15MH/S)-(1MH = 1000 KH)-(1KH = 1000 Hashes)

Getting started with AMD GPUs

  • Step 1: After downloading the MotaCoin wallet, click the extract all button and create a new folder for your MotaCoin stuff. I used C:\Mota
  • Step 2: After it exacts the Motacoin-qt file, open the file. Windows may warn you / ask to allow the file to make changes. Allow windows to open the file and let the wallet startup. The wallet will start syncing with the blockchain, so let that run awhile in the background. While it does that...(Some people have reported the wallet crashes the first time opening it) If this happens just open the wallet again and it will start fine.
  • Step 3: Extract the mining program and all other contents into the same folder
  • Step 4: Create a new file and call it run.bat. Here is what the run.bat should look like:

set GPU_MAX_HEAP_SIZE 100
set GPU_USE_SYNC_OBJECTS 1
set GPU_MAX_ALLOC_PERCENT 100
sgminer.exe --kernel x13 -o stratum+tcp://pool.luckyaltcoin.com:3633 -u MHvf4RdPDJYkexwcGS4pSC8h17jaGtEEVH -p c=MTA

  • Step 5: Substitute your pool's address and your wallet adress for the corresponding sections in the command code shown above.

Pick a MotaCoin pool to join:
  • Pools with more hashing power will find blocks more frequently, by joining a large mining pool you will recieve steady, smaller payouts. Conversley, pools with lower hashing power will find blocks less often but will be split between fewer people. In the end you should earn the same amount either way. For network health try to spread out the hash power evenly between the pools.
  • Step 6: After configuring your Run.bat file, double click on it to open and it should start mining away!
  • (Note: RX 550 was reported with 120KH / s)

  • Motacoin is a hybrid POW (mining) and POS (staking) coin. Be sure to google "Coin Control POS" for learning how to maximize your POS rewards. To start staking you will need to encrypt your wallet and unlock it for POS (done under the tools tab in the wallet)
  • Make sure to backup your wallet regularly, and safely store your encryption code
